What you're looking at above could very well be a Sony Ericsson prototype Windows Phone. Judging by the amount of space the keyboard has and comparing the size of the phone with the USB cable, this mystery device could very well be sporting a screen that is 4 inches or bigger. The phone also seems to reflect Sony Ericsson's knack for churning out high quality materials in their top-tier smartphones, as the keyboard looks to be using soft plastic for its surrounding and clicky plastic on the keyboard similar to the Palm Pre. Along with an orange notification light right above the Sony Ericsson phone, we could soon be getting one of the sexiest WP7 sliders to date.
But the validity of this image has been called into question, and with good reason too. Sony Ericsson fans are notoriously awesome at creating amazing mockups and candid shots that just so happen to feature phones that are 100% fake. There's also some evidence to support that theory--the Internet Explorer logo is colored instead of white and the Zune tile is double-wide compared to the single-wide tiles featured today.
But based on my own experiences with Sony Ericsson fans (before the smartphone craze, I was one of them) I think this image isn't fake. Sony Ericsson fans are not just good at making fakes, they are extremely meticulous. Unless this was an amateur job, I don't believe they would overlook the Live Tiles, one of the biggest identifiers of WP7. What I think we are looking at is a very early prototype from Sony Ericsson that may have had a pre-release firmware loaded on it. If you can remember back about a year ago, Sony Ericsson was announced as one of the many WP7 hardware partners. Also, the company has recently made comments that they are looking into WP7 but are currently more preoccupied with the success of their 2011 Android lineup.
Even if this does turn out to be a fake, it's the type of design Sony Ericsson should be aiming for with their first WP7 device.
