To say that Microsoft dropped the ball on YouTube for WP7 doesn’t even begin to describe it. While they’ve made a YouTube extension that works well in IE Mobile, their actual ‘app’ is nothing more than a shortcut to the YouTube mobile website. To make matters worse, IE doesn’t currently support HTML5 (IE9 will be bringing that soon) so we aren’t even getting the decent mobile site—we’re stuck with the dumbphone site instead.
Well word coming from WPCentral is that HTC’s highly regarded YouTube app (with HD support over 3G!) that was previously exclusive to HTC hardware like the Surround, HD7, Trophy, Mozart, or Pro has finally been ripped. So if you have a jailbroken WP7 device from Samsung, LG, or Dell you can finally enjoy a good YouTube experience on your phone. Head on over to the source link below and start downloading!
If you don’t want to jailbreak your phone, you do have an alternative: the free YouTube app from LazyWorm is quite good and probably the best option available besides HTC’s. Click here to check it out in the Zune Marketplace.
