Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S II-based Windows Phone in the works?

When it comes to insane specifications and bleeding-edge features, Android is usually the best option. The operating system has definitely had plenty of growing pains and some would argue that all of that horsepower is actually needed for the phones to run as smoothly as their competition on other platforms, but it is still undeniable that if you want some of the most innovative hardware in mobile phones today you usually turn to Google.

Well Windows Phone has been growing pretty quickly too and now that Nokia has thrown their hat into the ring, promising such gorgeous designs like the Sea Ray (based on the N9), manufacturers are probably thinking of upping their ante. So comes news that Samsung is working on their highly-anticipated followup to the Focus--and it just might be based on their flagship Galaxy S II hardware. Nobody's actually seen it, but the gossip originated from a credible source: an entry into the official Bluetooth website which specified an unknown Samsung device with the model name of SGH-i937.

If you don't keep track of smartphones' real names, the Focus was the SGH-i917 and the Samsung Galaxy S II was the SGH-i927 so therefore it's logical to assume the SGH-i937 is a successor to the Galaxy S II. How does Windows Phone fit in? In the Bluetooth stack itself, which is apparently identical to the one expected to be seen in Mango-based hardware. Add that to the device's appearance as a registered device in Occassional Gamer's list of devices playing their games, and you have enough water to start churning the rumor mill. Again, this is a rumor so don't get your hopes astronomically high for something unconfirmed. It is a little obvious that Samsung would base their high-end Windows Phone on the Galaxy S II, but are you still excited to see it?
