Developers: Official Android to WP7 API Mapping Tool Released, Microsoft Makes Love Not War

Despite some passing similarities to iOS 5, many in the tech community strongly believe that Windows Phone share some important characteristics with Android. The fact that Microsoft's smartphone OS, which is only 8 months old by the way, is being compared to these lumbering giants at all is a big compliment. However, Microsoft recognizes it's still the underdog and so in the pursuit of luring in as many Android developers as possible to Windows Phone, the company has let loose an official Android to Windows Phone API Mapping Tool. Microsoft did this before with iOS, and the same conditions apply: not every Android API will be supported and it won't do anything automatically for you--you have to put in the leg work. But we can tell you that neither Apple nor Google provide any sort of transition tool to developers for each others' or their competitors' platforms, so Microsoft is doing something a bit left-field. But this is clearly a strong indication that Microsoft is in it to win it, even if that means using their time and resources resources to make potential developers into active ones.
