Windows 8 App Store Screenshots Leak (Update: Fake)

There has been a steady stream of new information about Microsoft's future flagship desktop OS for a few months now. Most recently, Microsoft wiseman Paul Thurrott and ChevronWP7 developer Rafael Rivera teamed up for a series of posts titled 'Windows 8 Secrets' but that project was eventually halted on request.

But that early Milestone build is still out in the wild, and CNBeta just put up a few brand new shots of what looks to be part of Microsoft's answer to Apple. Yep, it looks like your next laptop or desktop is coming with an App Store built in. Sadly it's not showing off its Metro hairdo just yet, nor is there any indication given that these apps will be Silverlight-based and tie into the rumored joint marketplace. Oddly, the screenshot clearly states 'App Store' in its title bar while it was expected to adopt the Windows Phone term of 'Marketplace'.

Yet on the eve of the MIX'11 keynote presentation, one can't help but think this single unconfirmed screenshot could end up stealing the entire show. Check out more pics of the app store at the source link.

Update: Turns out these screenshots are fake...sort of. This is actually just a third-party Windows App Store developed by a Chinese software company. However, we still do know that Windows 8 will have an app store of some kind.
