During a talk with Reuters, HTC's European head Florian Seiche talked about the company's future plans. Most of the discussion was obviously dominated by tablets and Android talk, but Seiche also talked about Windows Phone. Some were concerned that the 800-pound gorilla that is Nokia would overshadow and intimidate the other Windows Phone partner manufacturers, but Seiche sees it differently:
HTC should benefit from Nokia's deal to start using Microsoft's software in its smartphones as this will boost Windows' share of the smartphone market, Seiche said. "It will not change our commitment to Microsoft," he said. "With a new player entering, it should actually help to elevate the relevance of that platform ... we actually feel that we should be able to benefit. [...] The long-term opportunity with Nokia entering will definitely bring Windows back to critical mass," Seiche said at the summit at the Reuters office in Paris.
It's refreshing to hear people, you know, not complain about Microsoft for once (despite the Reuters article's bashing of Windows Phone's market share). HTC is clearly in it for the long haul with Microsoft and if we get to see more phones like the Bresson released to market, we're not going to start complaining anytime soon.
