Rumor: Microsoft Launching Sliverlight for Xbox at MIX, Shared Marketplace Between WP7 and 360?

Juicy rumors are flying now that MIX is a little over a week away (April 12th, in case you didn't know) and today's game of telephone says that Microsoft could be launching Silverlight for the Xbox 360. Tom Warren from Winrumors is the one behind the word of mouth and according to "persons familiar with the company's plans" Microsoft's Scott Guthrie will make the announcement during his keynote at MIX '11.

Why is this important to a Windows Phone site such as this? Well Windows Phone 7 apps are built on Silverlight and once you read this quote from the article and you'll see why we're posting this (emphasis ours):
"Guthrie will keynote at next week’s MIX11 conference and is expected to unveil the company’s plans to bring Silverlight 5 support to Xbox. Microsoft is positioning Silverlight as its strong multi-platform base to bridge the gap between mobile, PC and Xbox. Extending Silverlight into the Xbox market will allow Microsoft to create unique opportunities for application developers. One source, who wishes to remain anonymous, hinted that the company may be planning to create its own application Marketplace that would see developers scale their Windows Phone applications over to the big screen Xbox experience."
If this really does happen, Windows Phone developers would suddenly have over 20 million Xbox Live users as customers for their apps. This could potentially be huge to establish the Microsoft Marketplace as a true threat to Apple's monstrous App Store and Google's Android Market. What started out as a simple Flash competitor seems to be blossoming into the heart of Microsoft's developer tools and we could finally see some truly epic competition occur. This is still a rumor and no one has officially verified this, but don't blame yourself if you're suddenly excited for next week.
