Nokia will support N9 alongside Windows Phones "for years"

We've thought a lot about how the N9 fits in with the Sea Ray and the rest of the Nokia puzzle, and each time we've wondered why they had even bothered to announce it in the first place. It appears things are becoming clearer now and prospective buyers of a modern Nokia smartphone might have something to look forward to if uninterested in the company's bid with Microsoft. The manufacturer's own Klas Ström, head of portfolio management in marketing, mentioned via Twitter that Nokia would support their zombified mobile operating system, "for years AND release several SW (software) updates".

As confusing as this may appear, one has to remember just how ambitious MeeGo was for the company. It promised to be a truly modern OS that would still pave a path for their current Symbian developers to transition to. When the Microsoft partnership was announced, all of that seemingly went away and a big chunk of the Nokia faithful were left conflicted. We're curious to if Nokia really can support both its own MeeGo operating system as well as its duties with Windows Phone, but if we get to keep seeing hardware like the N9 and the Sea Ray we're not going to complain!
