Looks like some engineers or testers at Microsoft are even more excited than we are to get some new Mango features into the public! Well, we wish that were the case but it may have been your first thought if you spotted the 'Beta Xbox Live Extras' app in the Marketplace on Friday. Apparently the busy bees at Microsoft were taking advantage of that 'Beta' Marketplace publishing feature in Mango to distribute this early build of Xbox Live Extras among themselves but instead it accidentally became visible to the public. At least that's according to the statement found in the Xbox forum from user 'Lei Tracer', who claims to be involved. He also said that if you were planning to take a peek under the curtains to see what's next, "you won’t see anything because it depends on Mango libraries that aren’t available on your phone yet".
So while this is really a lot of confusion over a simple mistake, it at least confirms to us one thing: Xbox Live Extras is sticking around for Mango and includes enough new goodies to make it incompatible with current handsets.
