A few days ago, Intel's Renee James was talking up Microsoft's plans for Windows 8 and dropped a few bombshells. Namely, that Windows 8 on ARM chipsets (i.e. tablets) would be released in four unique versions and that none would support Windows' massive catalog of x86 applications. Well Microsoft clearly isn't happy about Intel flapping its mouth all around town, and Windows President Steven Sinofsky released a statement against James' claims.
Intel’s statements during yesterday’s Intel Investor Meeting about Microsoft’s plans for the next version of Windows were factually inaccurate and unfortunately misleading. From the first demonstrations of Windows on SoC, we have been clear about our goals and have emphasized that we are at the technology demonstration stage. As such, we have no further details or information at this time.
So Sinofsky says that Intel is wrong, but doesn't confirm any new information to prove it? Hmm. Well if what James said was true, that Windows 8 on ARM would not support x86 programs, then the negative response to the news should do wonders changing Microsoft's mind on the decision.
